This year passed so… well, not necessarily “quickly,” but it’s like, “Wow… 2014 is almost over.” I’m kind of glad because this year held a lot of painful moments for myself and for many people, but it also let me learn many many things. I’m grateful for the wisdom I attained. I could’ve done without 75% of the mental pain though. haha.

I do believe each year can give off a certain kind of “feel” to it (ex. the year I found myself, the year I learned who to stay away from, the year I moved in with a dragon, etc.). However, I don’t like saying “I can’t wait for the next year because this year is so bad,” because I don’t feel it’s necessarily the year that’s making things bad. Yeah, sometimes you get a crappy year, but I don’t think it’s always the year itself. Um… How do I say this properly…

What I’m trying to say is… Let’s say we’re in August (wooo time hop) and August is going bad for you, so then you say, “Ugh, I can’t wait for September,” but then what if something goes wrong in September? Now you’re saying, “Ugh, I can’t wait for October.” Now you’re kind of wishing for the next moth and the next month and eventually the next year to come. A new month or a new year won’t bring happiness.  Waiting to start anew in a new year won’t make things better. You don’t have to wait for the next month or year to come to bring positive energy and love into your life. (Love for yourself and what you do; not necessarily people)

Want to change something? Start right now and if not now, tomorrow. Starting on the first day of a month or year may seem the most aesthetic for when you keep track of days or tell others about it, but sometimes that delay means you never get to it. I do this all the time. That’s why when I want to start something, I start right away. I can gladly say that this is something I’ve achieved this year. I may not have posted every day or studied as hard as I could or learned a new recipe every week or publicly posted written works, but I did other things.

I found lovely friends online, learned how close to let certain people be, how to not care so much about other’s opinions, finished a couple of textbooks (MIRACLE BLESS), made some good attempts to use Korean on twitter to talk to BAP and fellow fans in Korean and Japanese (you learn SO much this way omg), saw how badly college affected me, and a couple of other things.

So instead of what you’re planning for 2015, what have you done in 2014 that you’re proud of? I think that’s a better thought to end the year on. :)

Also, thank you to all the people who followed this blog this year despite how inactive I am. ;-; I wanna be much more entertaining and helpful to you all.  You guys are the best!

/crawls back out from the depths/

It’s been a while, hasn’t it…

Long story short: Part-time job + college + depression and anxiety + preparing for events + people = @_O

I’m doing better now though. The job I was doing was only during October and it’s getting closer to the end of the semester so things are starting to ease up a bit. I’ve recently got more Korean study time in HALLELUJAH BLESS YOU BABY POSEIDON. Japanese however…

Let me tell you about my Japanese class.

Great professor- This is my third semester with her. Great teacher’s assistant. Good book we’re working from. AND WE ARE BLOWING THROUGH THINGS LIKE CANNON BALLS THROUGH PAPER TOWELS. Everything is taught well, but we race through things. I’m doing well in the class, but I’m not retaining anything for long-term. We learn vocab by studying a long list for a vocab quiz on 10 random words. The tests don’t really test our knowledge of the material (Kinda good because we’d all fail if it really tested us. Bad because it barely tests us.) The activities we do in class are from the textbook and lord of oreos they are too easy. I’m talking “add whatever grammatical term you just learned to the end of the sentence” easy. The homework from the workbook is great. It makes you think and tests what vocab and grammar you understand. Every other way we try to use what we learned is honestly a flop to me.

I’ve been doing language exchange with someone from Japan who is currently living in America (She’s a sweetheart). Her and I have been studying English and Japanese, respectively, for about the same time. Now I know it’s not good to compare, but I must say her English is a lot better than my Japanese and that’s great. BUT! When it’s time to speak in completely Japanese I forget every word, grammatical term and hoop-lah that I have learned. I mean, yeah I can speak to her a little, but it’s not where it could be. With the words and grammar I’m supposed to know from class, I’m not where I should be. Now I do take responsibility for myself and believe I should study more effectively, but since I’m taking a college class, I WISH I could get more solid practice out of it. If I’m putting hours and hours a week into it, I would like to get something out of it. When I study my way, the information is there for long-term. It’s stuck with me and can’t leave or else I’ll kidnap it back into my brain. When I go according to the class, holy discount coupons it does not work. I’m not even sure what I’m trying to say anymore. Okay, lets try again.

I’m not where I want to be because I haven’t been studying in the way that’s best for me.

THERE WE GO! (I rhymed…)

So yeah, conclusion: Study the way that works best for you. Even if you’re taking a class, do what you need to go so that you fully grasp the information and it’s not floating around your brain to the point where you forget that you know it.

I should drop off that load of reviews I’ve been promising. >.>

Who Are You People?!

I think this is my favorite quote from Patrick in that one episode of SpongeBob. XD

I noticed that I never did an “about me” page and I am COMPLETELY lost on how to manage and edit things on WordPress right now. Menus, links, sidebars, and everything else is new to me because I have never owned a blog like this. I’m used to coding things from scratch… Which should be more difficult, but 90% of the stuff I do doesn’t make sense so yeah. >.>

WARNING: I wrote a lot ton of crap because I don’t know how to shut up.

My name is Keisha and I have too many nicknames. The most used one is Reika, but feel free to call me something else. I’m born March 25, 1993 so that makes me an Aries born in the year of the rooster. I’m a musician (bass, piano, alto sax.), dancer, maid in Tenshi no Ai Café, k-pop lover, j-rock lover, and ultimately a riot. A nice one though. :D My heritage is Trinidadian, Panamanian, and I may be Muslim. (I don’t know about my biological father’s side, but the last name is Salaam.) I love talking to people and making them laugh so feel free to send a message or add me on anything listed at the end of this post.

Warning: I can be a sarcastic little thing. XD

Another Warning: If you go to my tumblr, be careful. I like Asian men. That’s all I can say and all I need to say. >.>

I may be majoring in psychology or translation or language but I’m 90% sure I’ll have music as one major. I love music so much, but lately I haven’t been playing as much as I should have so my love for it feels like it’s diminished. ;A; Regular playing and not caring how bad or inexperienced I may sound are definitely the cures. I’ve been playing electric bass since Sept. 2008,  alto saxophone and upright bass since November 2010, and piano since Dec. 2010. I had some upright lessons (rarely supervised) -.- and was taught bass for a year in high school but had to self-teach after that. I get some coaching here and there from friends as well. Alto sax. and piano are self-taught and I currently don’t own an upright bass so I can’t do anything. At all. My inner bassist is crying right now. CRYING.

My native languages are: Proper English and Bad English (hoodlum dialect). I kid you not. I prefer to speak proper English, but I only know bad English because I grew up around people who spoke broken English whether it was from their homeland’s accent (Trinidad) or they were trying to be “hood”.

I aim to learn uhh… A lot of languages. I tend to catch on to them quickly in terms of pronunciation and grammar. Remembering vocabulary is my greatest enemy. Here’s all the languages I want to be able to speak:

  • English (CHECK. WOO!)
  • European Spanish
  • Korean
  • Japanese
  • Mandarin Chinese (I fear Cantonese and it’s 8-9 tones.)
  • Russian
  • Dutch
  • German
  • Croatian
  • Middle Eastern Arabic
  • French
  • Greek~
  • Latin~

I put a ~ next to Greek and Latin because I only want to learn here and there about the language because it’ll expand my English vocabulary. It’s a lot on the list, but I really really love learning. I HATE being forced to learn to someone else’s standards though. *cough*rudeprofessors*cough*

I’m pretty I’ll learn the languages in the order I just listed. The Slavic and Germanic languages may change their order and French may jump off the list or higher up. I’m not sure.

I aim to do a semester in Japan and a semester in South Korea. It’s been my dream for a long time to do abroad study in college and I am determined to fulfill it.

(Secret: If I could, I want to be a professional dancer and choreographer. I love dance, but haven’t been able to improve my technique because I can’t afford to continue classes at the moment.)
